Shedding! What a word!

What a word! What does it make you think of? Snakes? Trees? New life?

So for me it’s a funny sounding word (bit like moist??!) but it’s one that’s come up in a lot of conversations I’ve had with people over the past couple of weeks.

And what’s interesting is that’s it’s not simply the change of seasons, although this has been a common theme in conversations with the gorgeous sunshine we’ve been having. Much of the changes people have been dealing with are life changing, cancer, wills, dementia, fleeing war… like wtf!

No one mentioned in your 40’s these are the things we would be contending with! Yet these are things that we can’t really control, but what we’ll have an element of control over is how we deal with these difficult situations. Naturally someone will feel hurt or rejected or frustrated, but we can let ourselves process these emotions and then try to put things in place to make the best from them. Talking about the issue, journalling, letting go of what no longer serves you.

Breathwork and meditation is an amazing way of allowing the brain to deal with something at an unconscious level. Whilst bringing ourselves into that moment we are able to process difficult things similar to when we are asleep and dealing with problems in deep sleep. Yoga also allows this as we are so focused on the moment we are in and not falling over! As soon as the mind wanders in a yoga class this is when we may wobble or fall over, or as a teacher get in a muddle!

So how does this lead to shedding? This is part of the process of letting go and moving forward, not changing ourselves but allowing the best version of ourselves to move forward. Being kind and respectful to ourselves and factoring in time to just be. Healthy eating, drinking water and walks are my go too when things are tough, then building in some gentle yoga or breathwork.

Let me know what you may have ‘shed’ recently?

And if you haven’t, perhaps take that viewpoint when things feel a bit overwhelming, get out for a walk, eat a little healthier, drink more water and try to let go of what no longer serves you.

And of course pop along to a yoga class for a deep stretch and focus on your breathing.

Here is a selection of forthcoming workshops where we will be looking at how yoga can help us in a range of areas of our life:

Yogalates - three week focus on pelvic floor health, hormones, yoga and Pilates for health.

Serenity by the sea for menopause/womens nutritional health advice on 17th May.

Join me for Yin yoga on Thursday 29th May.

Afternoon Vinyasa and Yin at studio flex on 19th July.

See you soon!
