Here is a rundown of my favourite tips, products you can build into your daily life to help your skin glow!
It’s the time in our life we think we know our skin type and how to care for it; our inner confidence is usually high and we really know who we are, then gradually oestrogen begins to decline and there are new skin and body challenges to take care of.
Collagen decreases from the age of 21 and along with the fat under the skin becoming less. The results can be skin lines become deeper and firmness can be less taut. Skin produces less sebum which leads to dryness and skin tone can become less radiant. Oh and then to add to the skin confusion you may get spots. It’s time for a skin make-over!
Advice: Make an appointment to chat with a holistic therapist such as a naturopath to tailor inner health remedies as no one menopause is like another.
There is so much advice and tips out there for menopausal skin, so I’ll bring a few tips together over the next few weeks. Introducing a couple of changes at a time will lead to excellent positive change over a few weeks, and you’ll never look back!
Skin products: It’s time to nurture your face and keep a pot of Wild Rose Beauty Balm to hand for dry patches and as a must have skin saviour.
Try spritzing flushing skin with Reviving White Tea Facial Mist for instant ‘aaah’.
Dab on Clarifying Mahonia Skin Gel to ‘zap’ unwanted breakouts.
Take time to massage your face as it’s like a face workout and elastin loves a workout!
This is one of my absolute favourites, Frankincense Intense Lift collection is the perfect choice to boost firmness and suppleness with the incredible peptide complex, to plump and hydrate with the hyaluronic acid duo and increase skin’s firmness with the firming complex of ribose, linseed extract and marine extract. Admittedly it is a little bit pricey, and as alternative the Frankinsence 24 hour moisturiser is great deep moisturiser for super dry skin.
Diet tips: Diet is a key factor in maintaining skin’s radiance. Avoid processed foods, animal fats, hydrogenated oils, excessive sugar, salt and dairy and ideally eat organic to reduce the pesticide overload on the body.
If your plate looks like shades of brown and beige swap it for colour!
Bone density can begin to decline along with muscle mass so a healthy lifestyle becomes important.
Increase Vitamin D and calcium to naturally support bone strength, a good excuse for some winter sun!
Drink 2 litres of filtered water per day – Tip: Infuse the jug of water with fresh lemon slices and rosemary to sip during the day .
Avoid caffeine and alcohol as both increase hot flashes and switch to herbal tea with its added health benefits
Add to your diet seeds such as sesame, flaxseed, sunflower and pumpkin plus berries, green leafy veg, broccoli, tofu, soya, edamame beans and seaweed.
Switch to wholegrains such as bread, pasta and rice rather than the refined white versions. Switch milk chocolate to 70% cocoa dark chocolate.
Exercise tips: Take part in regular yoga and meditation, these are proven to relieve anxiety and encourage sleep. If you are close to bed time, try sitting calmly and focusing your breath and taking ten deep breaths in and out. Think about the cool breath as it enters your nose and warm breath as it leaves through your nostril.
