Have you given journaling a go?

This is something that I often struggle with. When I trained as a Yoga teacher we were told to regularly keep a journal, reflecting on our yoga practices, how we felt after a session or how poses could be adapted or helped us feel. At the same time I was completing my Yoga teacher trainining I also dabbled with counselling training, really to decide which route I preferred to take. As you can see I opted for the Yoga teaching! However in the Counselling training we were also asked to keep a journal reflecting on a wide range of factors throughout our life as part of the training. This was also impactful, but felt heavy at the time. Moving forward I started to feel quite a negative association with journalling, until more recently.

I have recently made quite a few subtle, yet siezmic changes in my life, moving away from how things "should be done" to how they feel right. This has involved journaling. I realised I have been reflecting and journaling in one way or another my whole life, well since I was 12! I literally kept a diary through my teens, when I went to University, when I went travelling at various points in my life, when I had my babies, and more recently through Yoga refelctions. It really is my one constant.

Yet it hasnt fel like a chore. I have a number of notebooks, my phone, even scraps of paper. The most important part is getting the thought out of my head and onto paper. It can vene be thrown away afterwards!

Here are my top tips on getting started. And if you need a guide take a look at my free 52 page download with prompts and yoga/health tips to take you through the year.

Although the idea of journaling feels like a bit to a chore (sometimes anyway!), it doesn’t have to be…

It can be a lovely reflective ritual at the end of your day. Or it can be

  • scattered note books you pop ideas in over time.

  • notes in your phone

  • Letters to yourself now or in the future

  • Thinking and popping ideas on paper

Really anything to let yourself reflect or release the ideas in your mind. It can be from prompts or just how you feel that day.

I would love to know if you have tried journaling? Think you should but not sure where to start? Or any other thoughts on it! Let me know below!

Do you keep any form of journal?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Not at the moment, but I intend too...
