Why practice meditation?

Meditation is something I have taken a while to adapt to. Have you heard people say to meditate but not sure where to start? This was always me, and if I did sit down to practice meditation my mind would start to go super busy and I would get distracted. This is even more so the case now with the development of the smart phone, our concrentration span is getting shorter and shorter. But the good news is the brain is a muscle and we can alter this practice and really start to see benefits in a wide range elements of our life.

Here's the science...
Every time you learn something new a new neuronal connection is made in the brain. We have 55billion neurons in the brain so this takes a lot of practice to help us make new connections. Just take that in, 55 billion neurons in the brain!
Research has found that through practice and repetition we can strengthen the connections in the brain. This is also the case for negative thoughts and patterns as well as new learning and thought processes.
Recent research from UCL shows a comparison of people who take part in regular meditation and their grey matter – people who are regular meditators have increased grey matter, which is increasing in thickness with age compared to the natural deteriation of grey matter, whose brain is decreasing without regular meditation! Grey matter helps with cognitive processing so like any muscle area we want to use it to maintain its quality.
You can even improve your grey matter throung manifesting new ideas..
Even more so – by making future plans – or manifesting you are also able to make connections in the brain. So through spending a short amount of time talking about your future goals as actual successes you are creating those connections – making them become real!
I would love to invite you to try a meditation. You can listen to an introduction to meditation here, which will take you less than 10 minutes a day. You can only gain through expanding the grey matter!
